Ancient temple and theater 3,500 years older than Machu Picchu discovered in Peru

Archaeologists in Peru have discovered the remains of a 4,000-year-old temple and theater, shedding light on the origins of complex religions in the region. The excavation took place at an archaeological site near the town of Zaña. The team found ancient walls made of mud and clay just six feet below the surface. Further exploration revealed a section of a large temple and a small theater with a backstage area and a staircase leading to a stage-like platform. The discovery provides insights into the early origins of religion in Peru and predates famous sites like Machu Picchu by thousands of years. Large murals painted on the walls were also found, and further analysis will be done to confirm the site’s age. Peru is known for its numerous pre-Hispanic archaeological finds.
